Overbuying and consumerism not only costs you but it costs our planet too. Waste from throw away products that don't last and have no value, end up in rivers and streams and landfills, add that to the materials that go into packaging the items and the environmental costs to ship them. Then there are the planetary costs of excess water consumption used in manufacturing. And then the cost to humanity that occurs because the companies outbid each other to produce goods cheaper and cheaper, resulting in their employees not being paid fair wages and having to work in unsafe conditions.
Think about these things before you buy that unneeded item or that toy that will be broken before you even get home, and instead take that $5 and donate it to your local animal shelter or buy a few canned goods for the local food bank. This is a great lesson for children too. Helping someone else may bring you the peace and fulfillment that you are looking to gain when you purchase that impulse item
