Design a few exercises to see things from a different perspective:
  • dress down for the day -go out looking disheveled and see how you feel and notice how you are treated
  • go to the store and buy a staple like bread and pay using only change - like it was your last dollar
  • rely on the bus for the day instead of driving
  • use a cane, walker or wheelchair for a day
  • read articles or listen to interviews about people who are from a different faith, ethnicity, sexual orientation, economic status -learn about their perspective and experiences
  • take a cold shower, turn the heat off, go without electricity for the day as if you couldn't afford it
  • get low and see things the way a child would see them or the way your dog views the world
Doing these types of exercises by yourself or with your family can help to replace mistrust and separation with unity, understanding and compassion.
