Getting enough sleep and sleeping at the right time of night is important for your physical, mental and emotional health. Your body needs time to repair itself and your mind needs time to assimilate and process all the happenings from the day. Things like alcohol and sleep aids can actually interfere with this by affecting the quality of your sleep.
It's also important to develop healthy pre-sleep habits like:
Don't watch the news or disturbing television shows or videos right before going to bed. Better yet turn the television off and read a book or listen to relaxing music. Wayne Dyer used to say that whatever you are thinking about right before you fall asleep is what you will "marinate" in all night.
Don't wait until you get into bed to figure out your to do list for the next day. Prepare for the next day before getting into bed.
Do take a break from electronics 1-2 hours before bed.
Do give yourself a dark, quiet and cool place to sleep.
Do think peaceful, calming thoughts once you are in bed. Leave the stress and worries for the next day.

Trying to relive what once was or being filled with resentment, guilt or shame for what was will get you nowhere. Take the lessons the past has to offer and move on. Your life is happening now.
True non violence extends to your words, your thoughts and your actions. It includes what you watch on TV, the music that you listen to, the food that you eat and the companies that you support. Global peace will not be possible until we, as individuals, stop inviting violence into our lives.
Get out of your head, which is judgmental and argumentative and into your heart that knows what is best.
Those that continue to accumulate more and more will never have enough. Before making yet another purchase ask yourself, what need am I looking to fill with this purchase. Now is always a good time to adopt the old adage "less is more".
Let that internal place of peace be your sanctuary. It's a much kinder way to live your life for yourself and for the world.
This means you never see things the way they are, rather you see things the way you expect to see them. You superimpose your expectations, which skews your perception to support your belief.
If you hate the city you live in you will find countless incidents of trash or violence to back that up, whereas if you love living where you do, you will be more likely to notice things like plants or flowers or the friendliness of neighbors. Your beliefs and expectations are creating your perceptions, which in turn are creating your reality.
Imagine if a baby never took the first step because it didn't know how or was afraid of failing - it's life would be monumentally different. Use this absurd scenario when you are feeling scared and uncertain to propel you into taking that first step.
Imagine how nice it would feel to give yourself a break from the nagging and judgement of your mind and just be you. Why not give it a try?
If you tend to be negative in the morning, plant the positive thought in your mind the night before, or leave yourself a note on the bathroom mirror or the coffee pot. Let that first thought lead to another good one and then another until you have an avalanche of happiness.
